Award winner at Les Rencontres d'Arles 2015!

Discovery Award winner: Pauline Fargue

Pauline Fargue is a performer, video artist, and sculptor whose diverse forms of expression are united by photography. For twelve years she has been arranging her photos in notebooks (diaries, philosophical journals, archives) examining all aspects of her life: familial, romantic, social. These are storehouse-notebooks where she stocks words, encounters, stories, the photographs that she folds, glues, cuts, reoccurring tirelessly over the pages. Pauline Fargue now reveals this personal archive to the public for the very first time, creating an original installation for the Rencontres d’Arles. --Fannie Escoulen

Arles 2015 : The Discovery Award

The annual Les Rencontres d’Arles photography festival is under way in the southern city of France. Since the festival’s opening on 6th July, a diversity of programmed happenings such as exhibitions, symposiums, round tables, screenings and book-signing have been taking place. Among them, it is without doubt that the Discovery Award becomes one of the highlights, as it has been a means of recognising new talents in the field of photography since 2002. Each year the award tasks 5 photography experts to nominate photographers whose works present outstanding qualities to be « discovered ».

Nature through Sebastião Salgado’s lenses at C/O Berlin --- Genesis

Valdés Peninsula, Argentina, 2004 © Sebastião Salgado/ Amazonas images

Having travelled to more than 30 destinations in 8 years of time, the renowned photographer is showing a collection of works for the first time at C/O Berlin.

By reaching the untouched corners on Earth such as Archaic volcanic landscapes, arctic ice masses, river canyons, mountain chains, primordial rainforests and sand dunes, Salgado unveils the richness in diversity of flora and fauna, as well as capturing scenes of indigenous people in their domains. His "Genesis" project is a tribute to nature; a large format photographic series that aims to raise public awareness toward the beauty and diversity of nature.

And the message is clear: conserve our precious nature. By moving away from producing social documentary works, Salgado explores the intricate inks between photography and ecology, as well as social behaviours. The exhibition is now showing 245 of his works till 16th August.
